RAKEZ operates 5 specialized zones. Al Hamra Business Zone suits consultancies, service companies, and SMEs needing access to Ras Al Khaimah city centre and neighboring emirates. Al Nakheel Business Zone is built for freelancers and small businesses with co-working infrastructure. Al Ghail Industrial Zone is for medium-to-large manufacturers needing dedicated land plots. Al Hulaila Industrial Zone is for heavy industry, large-scale manufacturing, and R&D.
RAKEZ Academic Zone is dedicated to educational institutions, training providers, and academic consultancies. GBS recommends the right zone based on your activity, visa needs, and facility budget. If your business is in commodities, gold, crypto, or fintech, also consider DMCC company registration as a Dubai alternative.
RAKEZ issues 10 license categories: Commercial License (trading), General Trading License (multi-product trading), Industrial License (manufacturing), Service License (consultancy, IT, marketing), E-Commerce License (digital trading), Educational License (schools, training), Media License (publishing, broadcasting, production), Individual/Professional License (single owner, single activity), Freelancer Permit (media, education, IT, analytics professionals), and the RAKEZ Dual License (combines free zone + non-free zone activities under one license). Commercial and service activities cannot share a license, separate licenses are required if your business needs both. RAKEZ visa quota is linked to your facility type. A flexi-desk or co-working space allows up to 4 visas. Serviced offices, standard offices, and executive offices support 6 to 25+ visas depending on size. Warehouses and industrial facilities allow higher quotas based on land area and operational requirements. Single-shareholder FZ-LLCs can apply for an Investor Visa, multi-shareholder companies can issue Partner Visas. GBS confirms maximum visa quota for your chosen RAKEZ setup before you commit.
RAKEZ offers Co-working Space (flexi-desk) with registered business address and 1 visa, ideal for solo consultants and early-stage businesses. Serviced Offices for small teams with shared facilities. Standard Offices and Executive Offices for private workspace with higher visa quota. Warehouses (from AED 230 per sqm annually) for storage, light manufacturing, and distribution. Industrial Facilities for large-scale manufacturing. Pre-built industrial facilities require an Operation Fitness Certificate before commencing operations.
A standard RAKEZ free zone company cannot trade directly in the UAE mainland market without one of three options: appoint a registered mainland distributor or commercial agent, open a mainland branch with a Department of Economic Development license, or upgrade to the RAKEZ Dual License (which combines free zone + non-free zone activities under one license, available only to certain activities). GBS RAK Free Zone company formation consultants advise on the most cost-efficient route based on your sales channels. Read more about opening a business in Dubai free zone including mainland trade options and dual licensing.
A RAKEZ company can claim 0% Corporate Tax on qualifying income if it meets the Qualifying Free Zone Person (QFZP) definition under UAE Corporate Tax law: adequate substance in RAKEZ, qualifying activities only, compliance with transfer pricing rules, and audited financial statements. Non-qualifying income is taxed at 9%. Audited financial statements must be submitted within 6 months of financial year end. As Chartered Accountant founded consultants, GBS reviews your activity mix before setup to maximize QFZP eligibility.
Yes, RAKEZ allows remote company formation through Portal 360 with notarized documents and Power of Attorney. Trade license, MOA, and Establishment Card can be issued without your physical presence. However, you must be in the UAE for visa stamping (5 to 7 working days), biometrics, and Emirates ID issuance. Corporate bank account opening also typically requires in-person bank meetings. GBS arranges all remote steps and coordinates a single 5 to 7 day UAE visit for in-person items.
